WALL OF SOUND 52H x 52W 2014 |
| |
|
Wall of Sound explores the traditional quilt block Crossed Square using hand dyed fabrics, vintage, and contemporary cotton textiles. Many of the prints used in the quilt are pieced prints. The quilt celebrates almost a hundred years in fabric--with prints from as far in the past as the 1930s.
“To visit Morocco is still like turning the pages of some illuminated Persian manuscript all embroidered with bright shapes and subtle lines.” Edith Wharton |

Yes! I am going to Morocco with Amazigh Cultural Tours and I would love for you to join me. We will be traveling together from April 13—27, 2024. Amazigh Cultural Tours values culture, textiles, women’s work, craft--basically all the things that you and I also value.
According to their website, “Amazigh Cultural Tours will give you a wonderful introduction to the people, landscape and lifestyle as you travel in a safe and supported environment with our professional guides and experienced tour leaders.” Doesn’t that sound like a dream come true? |

I love to travel. I suppose it is a good thing that I do, as I travel all the time! But the chance to go to Morocco does not come along every day. Thinking about it makes me giddy, nervous, and excited all at once. I feel my senses being overloaded just by thinking about how my senses are going to be overloaded!
As a group, we will be on a journey guided by a team of professionals. As lovers of textiles, craft, and culture, we will be gathering sources of information in our journals and phones. We will spend time thinking about color, pattern, repetition, line, and shape and how to incorporate our visual experience into future textile compositions. |

A friend of mine once said to me, there is a BIG difference between being a tourist and a traveler. Of course, I want to be a traveler. No one wants to be an Ugly American. In preparation for being a traveler, I am reading, researching, thinking, and imagining us together on this adventure.
I hope you will join me! AND, if you know things about Morocco that you would like to share with me, I would love to hear from you.

STUDIO SNAPSHOT I am having a crisis of faith when it comes to my iron. My beloved Beautural Iron has lost its magic. The first one lasted 2 1/2 years, which is a record. The second one lasted a week, and the third one just died. I ordered three irons to try out. I hope one of these guys really gets hot, steams a lot, and lasts forever! |

FLASHBACK PHOTO In February 2014, I had a lovely experience exhibiting my work at the Bunnell Street Arts Center, in Homer, Alaska. I drove down to Homer to install the show, and there was a major snow, ice, wind event that cancelled the opening! So, we drove down again the next weekend. The exhibition was called CUT-STITCH-PRESS which is one of my all time favorite exhibition titles. Some of you may notice a small spelling error. Life is not perfect. If you would like to learn more about this exhibit, you can by following these links--Wind Storm-Power Outage-Blizzard and Cut-Stitch-Press Take Two. |
