TEACH AND LECTURE SCHEDULE
Independent Workshops are taught directly by me for you. I am in charge of everything from the scheduling to the technology. Each independent workshop is composed of Lectures and Open Studios. During the lecture sessions, I present the assignment, lecture materials, answer questions, and share demonstrations about craft. All sessions are recorded and available for students to review for 30 days after the workshop ends.

ASYMMETRICAL SYMMETRY—JUXTAPOSING IDEAS ($145)
Advanced design workshop for students who have taken at least one other workshop with me. Students will gather four sources of inspiration for interpreting into a unified quilt composition that explores connection, variation, rhythm, repetition, and form.

KITCHEN SINK QUILTING—THE ART OF MAKING DO ($135)
All leftover fabric, UFO’S, orphan blocks, and random strips of fabric are welcome in this class. We’ll take those pieces of what not and make them into fun improvisational masterpieces. The focus of this workshop is on using up left-overs, bit making (creating small improvisation-ally cut and pieced traditional quilt blocks), and composition.

RIFFING ON TRADITION—EXPLORING DESIGN ELEMENTS WITH QUILT BLOCKS ($165)
In this workshop, we combine the basic design elements of art with the traditional quilt block to create interesting, new, and dynamic quilt units. The workshop begins with a presentation of design elements—line, shape, pattern, composition, motion, and color. We will look at a variety of quilts from all traditions of quilt making to see how individual makers use design elements to create original quilt compositions. From there, students will begin to stitch their own quilt blocks based on design elements.

ON THE GRID—Structure as Visual Aesthetic ($165)
Advanced workshop for students who have taken at least one other workshop with me. The grid can be a compositional structure used for creating visually compelling quilts. In this workshop, students will explore manipulating the grid through color, pattern, repetition, cutting & piecing and proportion & scale.

BLOW IT UP—Big Block Quilt Composition
Using the traditional quilt block as your starting point, we will enlarge and magnify the lines of the structure and use them as our skeleton for building a pieced composition. From there we will explore a variety of ways to create texture, pattern, and repetition in that space.

Improv Triangles—Perfectly Pointless
The triangle is an elegant shape that can be used to create dynamic quilts. This workshop covers all manner of triangles and ways to improvisation-ally cut and piece them into patchwork art.
Linear Blocks—Line into Shape
Students will use the traditional log cabin quilt block as well as other linear quilt block shapes as the starting point for creating original compositions. Improvisational piecing, contemporary quilt design, and using lines to make shapes are all discussed in this class.
The Plaid Experiment—Tartan UP!
Learn the basics of creating your own plaid blocks by using a simple formula, from there all manner of plaids are possible. This workshop is a fun and creative way to explore some basic concepts of original design.
